Why you should read it:
This is an achingly sad and beautiful fic from the point of view of Ianto’s niece Mica, as she stops by the graveyard to visit her uncle. Seasons change and we see Rhiannon, Gwen and Jack through the eyes of Mica as she leaves gifts for Ianto and deliberately takes the long way home. Mica’s voice is bright and strong in this story, elaborating on a character who got little screen time in the miniseries, bringing her to life as a gentle little girl who is still too young to understand the grief that surrounds her, but not too young to care.
This story is a tear-jerker, but it doesn’t feel forced or gratuitous. I found myself crying for what was lost to Mica, Rhiannon and Jack; for the moments that Mica didn’t understand, but are all too clear to an adult audience. With this story, Ianto isn’t alone anymore; it is not only Jack who will remember him for a thousand years, but a little girl who leaves him a heart shaped rock and traces his name in the snow.
