Dial-Up ... fail? Winter Haven and Stuff.

So, last night I could not log onto the internet on either of my computers via dial-up.  However, my mom's computer (which uses the same phone line, same username, password, phone number, service, etc.) could.

I could dial the number.  It would connect.  I would have 54k and both computers would send and receive packets, but it would not connect to ( Read more... )

did you try plugging into the same jack she was using? could be a little more noise, more or less resistance in the lines due to heat, cold or water.

Well, the weird part is that it says I have 52k connection speed, that it's sending and receiving packets of information. I'd expect (without knowing better?) that even if there was some sort of disturbance in the force, er, line, I would expect it to disconnect, or at least let SOME sort of web page, TelNet, IRC network or something to connect long enough for something to work. I dunno.. it's so weird.

Well.. funny thing... it turned out that the credit card she was using "expired" or changed in some way that she had to resubmit her credit card info. But instead of being a normal ISP where it takes you to their front page, or some other page to let you know... you have to sign in using their log-in software, where in their log-in it said "your credit card information is out of date." and had a link that lead to their web site to submit a new cc#... after that, the account worked again.

I find it funny that apparently they expect people to only be logging in with their combersome software, and not the dialer that comes with the OS.
