The alarm clock hadn’t been set the previous night for the next day was Saturday, which had been a weekly holiday worth a celebration for Jaejoong. Aside from not having any class to attend to, which only meant he didn’t have to tear his head away from the pillow at six in the freaking morning because he needed an extra hour and a half to prep himself up before actually going to school, courtesy of Rain’s sexy car, he was safe from all the nagging his teachers (yes, teacher with an s) had prepared especially for him. Other than those dilemma school had bestowed upon him like he was the heir to the throne of Mary Miserable, he could get up at his own accord without having the alarm clock go tweet-tweeting at him.
A smile crept up his unblemished face the moment he woke up and almost jumped off the bed the next second. He was sort of a morning person, if you consider half past eleven morning. Grabbing his phone resting on the nightstand, he wasted no time and dialed a familiar number before diving back onto his bed facing down. He supported his weight with his elbows propped before him, wiggling his toes as he bent his legs upwards. “Guess what?” Leaving no room for sweet talks, he enthusiastically voiced out.
“I hate to break it to you babe, but your boyfriend is no fortuneteller but a sweet lover.”
Jaejoong was sure there was a grin on Rain’s face at the other end of the line, he was so positive he could almost see it. “Mushy, aren’t we?” He chuckled for a while before his eagerness got the best of him. “Yunho is so doomed.” He was so excited he felt like grabbing the nearest thing he could use as pompoms to cheer for himself. “I can’t believe Dongwook, being the gentleman that he is, would give me such idea.”
“Well, he said it was a payback for hooking him up with your friend.”
“Ow! Maybe I should consider calling him Seven.” He mused over the idea. Seven was what Dongwook’s closest friends call him for some reasons unknown to Jaejoong. He had been offered to call the other in that fashion but he refused for he thought Dongwook hadn’t been worth his trust, but now, he was.
“You should. So, what are you up to?”
“Oh, you wouldn’t believe how lady luck was so captivated with my utter beauty.” Stating in a single breath, Jaejoong couldn’t help but grin to himself, almost making it hard for him to continue, but he did anyway.
“How so?” A shuffling sound was heard from Rain’s end of the line.
“Last night, he reminded me about next week’s exams.”
“Mmh…” A slight screeching sound reached Jaejoong’s ear his lover nodded, as he assumed, urging him to continue.
“And you won’t believe it. I can’t either, but just can’t let the opportunity slip like that. I asked him to tutor me.”
“Oh no you didn’t.” Rain voiced flatly out of sarcasm.
Chuckling at his lover’s response, Jaejoong rolled over the bed to lie on his back. He was so eager to carry out his plan that he almost couldn’t say a word because he was in cloud nine, playing the imagined success scenes on his head. But as to how to actually get on with it, he didn’t know as of yet, he also had Yunho’s input to consider so it was sort of a come-what-may tactic. “I’ll see to it that I’d take up all his time to keep him away from his books.”
“You are beauty and brains after all. You get to have your revenge and a high probability of perfecting your exams.”
“Thanks.” He joked before ending up in a fits of laughter, or giggle in Jaejoong’s case. “Yunho is so doomed.” He declared for the second time once he had gotten over the pre-rejoicing phase. Never did he address his older brother ‘hyung’, not even once. Not just because they hardly get to chat, which was due to Jaejoong avoiding the other before annoyance could take the better of him and smack all intelligence out of Yunho, but also because he didn’t want to. Plain and simple and crystal clear as that. He knew it was stubborn of him, quite childish too, not to pay respect to his brother, but it was his pride talking. “So, what’s your plan today?”
“Eh?” There was a slight rise on Rains tone. “Didn’t we agree to have a lunch out together? Just finished showering and I’m about to pick you up.”
“Ow!” Jaejoong had to smack his forehead, pretty hard at that, for forgetting things out of excitement. “I’m sorry.” Using a voice sweet enough, he tried to save his ass. “I forgot, I’m really sorry.” Mercilessly biting his bottom lip, he mused over what to do. He really wanted to go out with his lover, rather badly too. But, he can’t miss this opportunity people regarded as ‘once in a lifetime’. “I really want to go, like, I really, really, really want to. But you know…” He tried hinting Rain about it but got no reply. “…the plan. I’m very sorry.”
A sigh was heard from Rain’s end. “Some other time then.”
An ‘aw’ managed to slip out of Jaejoong’s mouth without his consent. “Thank you.” He smiled despite the fact that Rain couldn’t see him in any way, but he had been giggling to himself all morning so who could care less. “I’ll try to sneak out tonight, how’s that?” He didn’t want to be stuck at home after all, not in his wildest dreams.
“Good enough. Be prepared though, absence has its price after all.” Rain joked he chuckled.
“I’m so terrified.” Jaejoong bit back, laughing along. “So, I guess I’ll see you later.”
After the conversation with his boyfriend, Jaejoong lied on his bed, staring blankly at the white ceiling with his arms and legs spread apart. He contemplated how the world seemed so unfair, not just in his case but Rain’s as well. He had eventually learned that his boyfriend wasn’t what he seemed to be, or rather, what people made him seem to be. Just because Rain was a little more out going than necessary, had a body worth a thousand of flailing arms, a persona oozing with sex appeal and the looks to die for - oh, where was he again? Right, just because Rain was all that didn’t mean he was an instant ass to be feared.
The way Rain had let Jaejoong slip off just like that was proof enough. To put it simply, he had been a victim of stereotyping. But he never seemed to care anyway and maybe, just maybe, he wanted things to remain that way. Well, who wouldn’t want to be in his status?
---
“So?” Jaejoong’s eyes wandered off left and right, up and down. For a reason he couldn’t lay a finger on, he felt uneasy being inside his brother’s room. It was neat and all, just like his own, but for a different reason. His room was tidy because he was hardly there to mess things up like would surely do if ever he was home as much as Yunho. But the room he was in at the moment was, yeah. Jaejoong was that uncomfortable that he found it hard collecting his thoughts and the sharp words that usually smoothly went flying out the vicinity of his mouth had been caught up in his throat. He was scared to move, afraid that he might get contaminated by nerd bacteria that were all over the place. He was positive about it despite the said bacteria being invisible to the naked eye. Inwardly, he cursed his luck which he had praised just a while ago and thought to himself. What have I gotten myself into?
“I’m afraid staying rooted there won’t even get you a C.” Yunho had his back against the door which Jaejoong loyally stood by, as he sat in front of his table. He tore himself away from the laptop on his desk, which was unexpectedly free of books unlike how Jaejoong had imagined.
Letting out a sigh, the brunette felt relief wash over him at the absence of books on Yunho’s desk. He felt the eeriness of the room went down a knot for he had this idea in his head that the more the books, the greater the possibility of getting the Yunho Virus. Then again, he couldn’t be too sure for it was Yunho he was dealing with after all. He looked around a little bit more as he took few slow steps until he found it starting to get creepy again, just in time when Yunho finally turned around, frightening the hell out of him.
As Yunho eyed the new inhabitant who was obviously shocked, he had a questioning look crept up his face.
“God, Yunho. Don’t scare me like that.” Jaejoong almost had to go on all fours to pick up his heart which had fallen out of sheer terror. He pulled the books he was holding close to his chest and placed a hand over the now vacant space, trying to still his wildly beating heart.
“Scare you like what?” Yunho took his time to ask, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he half-sat half-leaned on the table. He opted to take things lightly, not wanting to rush things if it wasn’t to Jaejoong’s liking. “You’re thinking too much.”
The younger knew he was. “Am not!” But he denied it, quite stubbornly too as signaled by the pout. Trying to recollect himself, Jaejoong spoke. “Now that you mentioned thinking -” He once again acted as if he was in deep thought, an act that had turned into a habit. “I think I can study on my own.” Without further ado, he trudged towards the door to exit the room that was suffocating the sanity out of him. He regretted ever coming up with the idea, not expecting it to be that tormenting even before they got started.
Yunho found himself running after and grabbing Jaejoong by the shoulder which was the closest within his reach. “I can’t let you go without a valid reason.”
“I had a change of mind, simple as that.” It wasn’t as if he lied, it just wasn’t the main reason. He had wanted to leave the moment he had set a foot in his brother’s room but didn’t have the courage to make a move until now.
“Not man enough to stay true to your words, eh?” The elder’s tone was nothing but mocking. It was clear that his intension was for Jaejoong to let him tutor the younger. It was odd that it seemed like he was the one begging for Jaejoong to be tutored but he paid it no mind, so did the raven who was completely oblivious and bit the trap in an instant.
Not a word was said and Yunho was pushed by the younger to the side. Jaejoong went straight to the desk his brother was previously occupying with audible stomps of his feet. He sat on the rotating chair without invitation before pushing the laptop aside and placed his books on the vacated space. “Stop standing there and teach me, quick!” Unknown to Jaejoong was that he was challenged, he would sound and act childish as Yunho had put it the previous night.
Amused, Yunho decided to stay still for five good seconds to stare at his younger brother’s back. The thought of Jaejoong showing this side of him to no one else but his brother made Yunho smile. As to why, should it appear on the exam papers, might be the only question a genius would have gotten wrong.
