I live in Colorado which might have something that fits the bill.
It is possible to buy a place here that is just a few miles from the mountains but is not actually in the mountains.
People constantly refer to my property in Kansas as a ranch but that doesn't meet my definition of a ranch. I think of a ranch as having pasture or grazing land. My land is all tilled so I define it as a farm.
Are you looking for a place with an already established house and out buildings? Do you require "room for a pony"?
The Front Range of the Rocky Mountains offers good possibilities, four seasons, and an international airport. So . . . put Colorado on your list.
