What have we become?

So a giant blimp of London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a yellow bikini will be flying over London this weekend. More than 3,000 supporters have donated more than £58,000 ($75,500) to fund the 29-foot balloon, which depicts the mayor reclining in a small yellow bikini. Protest organizers said that this was in response to London authorities' decision to ( Read more... )

Wow.  They waste alot of money.

It's rather disgusting considering that the money could have been used to feed the poor or put towards health care or education or anything but a damned over priced balloon.

I give up on humanity.  Bunch of greedy wasteful slobs. Time to press the apocalpyse button.

The Trump baby made sense, the Khan one, not so much. It relates to an advert that the right-wingers claim he banned, but he didn't. He didn't become mayor until a year after the advert was taken down from the Tube billboards simply because the contract had come to an end.

We "snowflakes" of left-wingers are amused that the right seem really angry that we're not angry and that their balloon wasn't banned. Anything that extracts money from idiots and transfers it to the hands of balloon making businesses has to be good.

I think that baby Trump made sense to you and Khan doesn't is just because you relate to Khan and don't relate to Trump supporters ta all. As far as I am concerned both are dumb, pointless and equally pathetic (although right off the bat I also felt that Trump was fun but Khan wasn't due to my political views). I know many right-wingers who were also amused at all the pointless fuss and expense that "snowflakes" went to in the hope to achieve something with their baby Trump and were laughing at it.

I felt that the baby Trump fitted with the British tradition of caricature. Some of the 18th century cartoons were absolutely savage in portraying royalty and people in positions of power. We're much kinder now, believe it or not. It wasn't something that I particularly supported, but I could see why people did it and it formed part of the major protest march. The Khan balloon, on the other hand, was just a copycat and simply tit for tat. I have no particular feelings about Khan as mayor. He's much better than Boris, but that's setting the bar rather low! At least he hasn't tried to build any pointless Garden Bridges.

Oh no, I completely disagree, Trump balloon was not original at all, it has all been done before as well. And even if you see Khan's balloon as a copycat, it can be viewed as a part of this performance too. And the British tradition for caricature would apply to it as well. We just tend to find all kinds of fancy explanations for our stuff and write off all of the others' stuff as dumb and pointless I think. At least I do. I see no difference between these two and am struggling to see how one would try to justify that there is one.
