What is this?
I learned more than a couple of new things since I joined LJ. For example, I now know what fanfic and smut are. I had no idea both of these existed and were so popular. I also did not realise that fandom existed on the scale that it apparently does among adults.

What is this about? This is the only non-Russian LJ account I have seen with comment threads running into thousands for every post. Is it some kind of a thing like fandom or fanfic? The first time I came across fanfic / fandom here on LJ I also could not understand what it was about.
