Alexandria & Brittany

In season 16 of ANTM as all fans will know there was a famous spat between Alexandria and Brittany ,well with all the other girls as well but Brittany was the one who yelled at her and was put on the stand at judging and all.. I have to say it's really rare for me to be so emotionally involved in a tv show as I was then. I was so mad that ( Read more... )

I felt for Brittani because she was having a panic /anxiety attack and as an anxiety sufferer myself, it seems to be something which happens a bit to people like her and me. Other people will be in the wrong, but we get so upset and worked up about things we are passionate about that we end up looking like the bad one so often, even when someone else is in the wrong.

Yeah that's actually something I can relate to myself as I have anxiety too....

I wonder if Tyra really set it all up, she seems so often to really care about the girls on the show...

agreed about the anxiety like woah! It can make your head spin and you can say anything that comes to mind too- even when you don't want to (especially during an attack) She seemed to really have some good coping methods though- she was doing Child's pose backstage after she took off crying. She had some water, and she tried to breathe and everything. I think showing her at that point made a lot of people relate to her because so many people suffer with anxiety disorders.

I haven't rewatched that season, so my memory of this might not serve, but... wasn't Brittany mostly scolded for making a scene before a client, rather than purely for confronting Alexandria?

Yes it was, but as I said below I felt the whole thing was thoroughly unfair on Brittany. ALL the girls in the house had beef with Alexandria because of her annoying attitude that the judges have seen themselves and then one girl loses it with Alex on a challenge and SHE gets made to look bad...they should have seen that the common theme in all these problems was Alex...if it wasn't all intentional.

Right, but if I recall well, the others didn't take it up with Alexandria loudly before the client. I think this is what makes the difference, to be honest. The judges have a history of not really caring if the models are waging war at home (provided there is no over the top bullying, or physical violence). They do, however, care if models show that side of their conflict in a professional environment, just as they (pretend to) care if a model overly complains at a shoot, or is late to one.

You can't...really be more understanding of Brittany as a person, when you are criticizing Brittany as a professional.

The fact is though that on that show their personal and their professional lives are all intermixed. I'm saying that the judges needed to be more understanding of that....

I mostly agree with this. Brittani making a scene in front of the client wasn't cool, but Alexandria was so much worse than her. The fact that Alex never got called out much at all and Brittani was made to look worse than Alex when the reality was the other way around angered me so much.

Eh, Alexandria did get called out on her stuff, though. She was in the bottom two a couple of times.
Plus Mr Jay was always pushing her on set. He'd tell the photographer things to poison them against Alex or just says d-bagery things to her.

Both ladies had major behavior issues.

really? soul-deep? That sounds like you know the girl personally :-\ and you don't. You can only go off of the edited version for TV.
Obviously Brittani's temper got the best of her- but does that really mean she's ugly- soul deep? Put yourself in that position where you finally crack about your frustrations toward another girl- whatever the situation. Blowing up was a mistake, so are you saying she's ugly because she's human?

I'm actually the total opposite; Alexandria can be a big bitch, but it was nothing compared to the hissy fit that Brittani threw--and in front of potential clients, no less. It was extremely unprofessional of her and I honestly never liked her after that. Alex may have been a bitch, but she never pretended to be anything else. I always saw Brittani in a different light after that. It was a very ugly scene and should have never happened in a place where everyone was so vulnerable. If she had a problem, she should have kept it to herself until later, because it honestly made her look like a fake, bratty girl.

Yeah, I really did not feel for her at all.

Yeah I have to say that after thinking about this some more I came to a conclusion that is similar to Deja vu boy's...the girls are already in the very unrealistic enviroment of living together in the first place so drama spilling over into other aspects of the competitions is pretty understandable as they are all around each other 24-7 even when they dislike each other. That's not real life, in real life you get a break from the people you don't like at some point in your day.

So if it wasn't all completely intentional on Tyra's part to bring more drama to the show she should have been way more understanding of Brittany losing it at Alexandria, especially when it resulted in Brittany actually having a full blown panic attack and when Tyra herself had actually seen Alexandria's bad attitude come to the fore.

BUt it's not all that dissimilar to the world of 'real life' modeling in this sense. If any of these girls were to become professional models and travel to Europe or Asia, they will be put into model housing with tons of other girls and have to learn to live with other people. They may not work directly with the same girls but that chance does exist.
