Kind of... main difference is that I don't think participation on a reality show counts towards SAG, which doesn't discourage SAG talent or SAG-bound talent from reality TV.

1. Soaps are a voracious machine that need a constant supply of new talent.
2. Soaps don't pay well and they're easy to get onto, so a lot of people who are trying their hand at TV acting start there.
3. Soaps will often hire non-union talent and the appearance there is traded toward union status.
