I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and a friend of mine brought this up as well...but do you think that Tyra and co should really send someone home after the first photoshoot

i don't think they should. you can't judge someone's modelling potential from one photoshoot. i mean, people who are awesome still have bad shoots from time to time.

I totally agree! Every season I hope she doesn't send someone home the first episode.

Technically they usually have two photoshoots -- they do one shoot, send a bunch of girls home to get down to the final 13-14-whatever. Then, they do a second photoshoot where they start eliminating 1 by 1. I guess you can say they receive no real criticism after the first photoshoot, though.

Sometimes it really isn't fair, but even in the real world, you do only get one shot at something. And if the majority of people don't like it, no matter how good you are, that's it. Maybe I'm just been cynical, speaking from personal experience.

It does seem harsh, as I think Tessa, Brita, Ashley, Kathy, and Christian didn't have photos that were so horrible to give them the first boot. This show has never really been fair, though.

To be honest, I usually see the first 3-5 eliminations as getting rid of dead weight anyway, so it doesn't bother me that much. I don't think any of them have been major upsets - it's usually the mall-pretty girls, the ridiculously dumb and the super-modest ones that probably shouldn't have been picked in the first place. The competition doesn't really get good until at least half have gone home.

And, like someone else said, they do get at least one photoshoot/critique before the first "real" elimination, so it's not like any of them are coming in 100% fresh.
