Ipswich MP calls for Clarkson to get the sack

It's gone up to 500 complaints? Were did the other 300+ come from? I swear it was only 180 or so when it was first discussed.

Good news is that it doesn't seem to have snowballed as much as the Brand & Ross fiasco. Oh and have you seen that Brand & Ross will be burnt at the stake? A little OTT perhaps ( Read more... )

This is getting ridiculous. When I heard the comment, my mind didn't immediately link to the Ipswich murders. I was here in the country when they happened so it's not like I wasn't aware of what was going on. People need to lay off - I'm sure he'll sort of apologize but not really mean it in next week's episode and they can all go find someone else to complain about.

The BBC have probably just decided to warn him every time and then carry on what with the amount of complaints they must get every week or every other week. It seems people haven't got anything better to do then complain AND if they can't stand the man why are they watching Top Gear? Makes no logical sense.

It's like when they laughed and joked about Hammond's crash and people complained. Surely they should have realised that a) they wouldn't have done so if Hammond didn't feel comfortable with it and b) that a lot of times when someone has an accident and survives that joking about it etc it a coping mechanism.

Yeah, I agree. I can't believe people complained about that (I didn't hear about it) - it was Hammond's crash to joke about, not theirs! I can understand the people complaining about Jeremy's comment, I winced when I heard it because I expected something like this to happen, but I really think they're taking it far too seriously. As the BBC rep said, people know what Jeremy's like, they know that whatever comes out of his mouth is going to be politically incorrect and probably offend someone, somewhere. They're not going to sack him, because I'm 99% sure James and Richard would quit in protest and then where would they be?

Why can't people just turn off their television if they don't want to listen to him!

The BBC really won't care and nothing will happen.

Clarkson's comments weren't directed at an individual and they have always been quite blatant about the type of humour on Top Gear. 500 complaints is nothing.

FFS, I am so sick of these moaning dipshits who have absolutely fuck all better to do than complain about the smallest and most trivial of things. So the joke may have been in slightly poor taste, so what? At the end of the day it was just a joke and is hardly going to make much of an impact upon the world.

Mr Mole said he had written a "strongly-worded" letter to the BBC's director general Mark Thompson.

I'm sure Mark Thompson is cacking his pants RIGHT NOW.

Daily Fail readers, probably. Who, like with the Dross and Brand fiasco, didn't actually watch the programme, but heard about it and decided to complain afterwards.

A strongly worded letter! Quake, quake in your boots! He probably spends his weekends alphabetising his stamp collection.

Making light of murder is offensive to the families? Of course. But if we followed this idiot's rules everyone who'd ever made an Ethiopian joke or an IRA joke etc should be dismissed too. The reason we joke about fucking horrible things is because it makes life, which is actually pretty damn hard, easier to deal with, by making us smile. Why so many people have sense of humour failures about Jez I do not know. They need to get lives.

God this is all pathetic. the guy has just gone "OH HAI THAR, BE THAT A BANDWAGON? I SHALL JUMP UPON IT!"

Besides, Jezza's been making remarks like that for YEARS. No one should even be paying attention, much less bitching.

I bet he's only doing this because people from Ipswich where those murders took place recently have been sending him complaints and asking him he's doing about it. Like a 'Hey lookie, I'm doing something. Happy?!' sorta thing

This is probably ture, and if Jez had mentioned prostitutes in Ipswich then this guy would have a tiny point. But he didn't. So in fact, the MP is basically saying, "Raaa, when you talk about prostitutes I'm going to take it personally because it's not like prostitutes were murdered anywhere other than Ipswich evarrr!"
