Argh, I've been a bad beta, not looking at the finished version yet! I'm sorry! This is such an original concept, it deserves love.

I like the change of tense, and I definitely like the hints of the letter that you're giving us. I also think that the glass smashing reads very well, awesome stuff. Loving italics on the last line, too! :)
