Chapter Eighteen

James

I opened the door of the apartment and heard voices coming from the kitchen. It surprised me since everyone else was still at the hub, unless Martha had snuck out to see me but that possibility seemed unlikely as I heard two male voices. One of them sounded strangely Australian which made something click in my brain. A smile started to creep across my face as I got closer to the kitchen.

“Hey mate,” Damian Mayer, my best mate said when I entered the kitchen. Emmett was also there eating a sandwich. Damien walked over and hugged me.

“Damien, I had no idea you were coming!” I replied rather surprised and very happy to see him.

Damien laughed, “I wanted to surprise you,” He explained before pulling back and ruffling my hair, “Olivia and I decided to spend some time apart for awhile, so I thought I’ll come and visit you.”

“Are you having problems?” I asked rather confused.

“No, it’s just Olivia wanted to have a holiday with the girls,” Damien explained with a smile, “She didn’t want to drag me along.”

I laughed, “Well I don’t mind, it’s great to see you,” I told him before I remembered that Emmett was also in the room, “So you’ve met Emmett then?”

“Of course, poor thing didn’t know what Vegemite was,” Damien replied with a laugh.

“Hey, it’s not my fault,” Emmett piped up from the table, “He told me that it was marmite, which I totally dislike.”

I shrugged and smiled, “There was no way I was going to let you have some,” I explained trying not to laugh.

“I have to go to the loo,” Damien said, “Won’t be long,” He added before exiting the kitchen. I walked over to the table and sat down. Emmett started to smile.

“Damien’s nice,” Emmett said with a smile, “So how did the talk with Jack go?”

“He yelled at me but I feel fine,” I replied with a shrug, “Just couldn’t wait to come home and dance with you.”

“Well that might not happen for awhile now,” He said rather disappointed, “Though I don’t mind, it’s more romantic at night.”

I was surprised at the word romantic since I had never heard him use it before. Did that mean he was slowly changing his mind or had the word just slipped out? I was hoping the latter because of the lustful thoughts swimming around my head. I was glad to wait but I didn’t know how much longer I could go on like this.

“Not tonight though,” He said with a smile, “You should spend some time with Damien, like going out to see a movie or even dinner.”

“You could come with us,” I told him, trying to assure him that he didn’t have to stay here on his own, “I’m sure Damien won’t mind.”

“No, he’s your friend,” Emmett replied, “Besides I have something I have to do.”

I nodded but didn’t answer as Damien had reappeared and happily sat down with us. He seemed to have a grin on his face.

“Why do I get the feeling there’s more to you two that meets the eye?” He asked rather amusingly.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“I don’t know, maybe that you both like each other,” Damien suggested which made Emmett blush slightly.

“Sorry have to do some writing,” Emmett said before disappearing off towards his bedroom. Damien gave me a look.

“Something I said?” He asked.

“I’ll tell you over dinner,” I replied, “Italian alright?”
