Chapter Fifteen

Jack

The receptionist reappeared a few minutes later with a kindly smile. Though I couldn’t help looking her over since she was very beautiful. She had wavy brown hair, a good pair of breasts and a lovely smile. I had to stop when she started to speak.

“Sorry Dr Worthington is currently busy but if you would like to wait...” She said and pointed over to the row of chairs behind me. I sat down on the chair which gave me a good view of the door. I didn’t mean to pry but it was in my nature. I picked up an old Heat magazine and started to read, not really knowing why.

The door opened a few minutes later and I noticed James appear from Dr Worthington’s office. It surprised me a little until I noticed a blue object in his hand. I realised that it was one of the devices that we had found. Last night I had noticed that one of them was missing but assumed that Ianto was still experimenting with it. Though it explained why Ianto took so long to get dinner. He had decided to help James behind my back, but why? I watched him walk off down the corridor and started to frown.

“Ah Captain Jack Harkness,” Dr Worthington exclaimed when he saw me.

“Hello Charles,” I replied with a smile and stood up.

“So what can I do for you?”

“Well you can start by telling me why James Elton came to see you.” I replied.

James

I unlocked the door of my apartment and went straight into the kitchen. I placed my keys and the ‘game boy’ on to the counter and opened up the paper bag. On the way back I had stopped at the bakery to pick up a chocolate scone for morning tea. I put it down and moved towards the cupboard where I kept the plates.

Dr Worthington’s words were still on my mind about how I looked like someone. After he had spoken to the receptionist I had questioned him about it. He laughed it off saying that he really didn’t mean it but somehow I knew he was lying. I heard footsteps enter the kitchen.

“I don’t blame you for wanting to help.” That familiar American accent said which made me put down the plate.

“You should have let me do the experiment.” I replied. I should have known he had seen me exit Dr Worthington’s office.

“Not after you fainted in the street James.” Jack replied rather seriously, “Though it had resulted with us going back to square one.”

“So he told you that Terrance Matthews didn’t have one then?” I asked with a small smile, “Ianto texted me.”

“Yes, but this doesn’t mean you are back on the case, James.” Jack answered, “You’re hereby suspended until further notice.”

Those words caused the deep anger I had for Jack rise up to the surface. I was about to turn around when Jack stepped forward and put a hand over my mouth. I started to struggle but he wrapped around his left arm around my waist which seemed to calm me down.

“I know you’re angry with me but it’s for the best.” Jack assured me and I could feel his breath on my neck. I didn’t want him to let me go except I wanted to feel his lips on my neck kissing it.

He removed his hand but not his arm. I gasped a bit and we just stood there for a few minutes until he removed his arm. I didn’t say anything as he left the kitchen but from that single moment it assured me what I had feared.

I was starting to fall in love with him.
