Top Five Television Shows I’m Looking Forward to for the 2007-2008 Season
Honourable Mentions: “30 Rock,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “C.S.I.,” “Stargate: Atlantis” (The most Canadian show on American television)
5. “Bionic Woman”
After the most crushing bust of last season, “Studio 60” and its earth shattering fall from grace and good television, I honestly can’t say I’m particularly relishing any of this season’s new arrivals. The one that has caught my attention however is the “Bionic Woman.” Mostly because the titular character is hot, and favourites actors of mine like Katee Sackhoff and even Isaiah Washington will be on the show. As well, some of the people behind the revival of “Battlestar Galactica” are behind the “Bionic Woman” so, fingers crossed, it might be the next resurrection of a kitschy 70s television show as non Kitschy 00s show.
4. “Friday Night Lights”
I borrowed this from my sister and went through it in fairly short order. Definitely one the best shows to come out of the 2006-2007 television season. A show that takes subjects I normally have no interest in, high school and football, and turns into this engrossing drama. I might have to have a “Friday Night Lights” marathon now. Now that I am hooked I just got to know what’s happening next.
3. “Battlestar Galactica”
For “Battlestar Galactica” though, this will be the final season. I’m a little conflicted about this as it has had a relatively short run of only three fairly short seasons to date. “Angel” had five full seasons and it still felt too hurried when it finally ended. On the other hand “Lost” has had three full seasons and more coming and it still feels too long.
Like “Lost,” “Battlestar Galactica” has a natural end; getting off the island and finding Earth, respectively. As well the writers of “Battlestar Galactica” clearly know what their endgame is, if all the details aren’t there yet. I also can’t wait to see how the major revelations of the season four finale play out.
2. “House”
Last season left us with House deciding to embrace a little change, after having a whole lot of it thrown at him. Aside from being one of my favourite shows, I’m particularly looking forward to the season premiere because of the cast changes that were announced over the summer.
No one is leaving but five new additions will be vying for positions on House’s team. Needless to say these “interviewees” will tortured in various ways and still consider themselves’ lucky to be hired while hating House every step of the way. It will be great.
1. “Heroes”
For its second season “Heroes” has everything going for it. Some interesting plot developments were put into motion with the first season finale, and “Heroes” doesn’t have to worry about introducing characters beyond new additions, regular and recurring. Among the recurring characters will be Kristen Bell who played one of my favourite characters on one of my favourite shows from last season.
This is the moment. “Heroes” can either deliver everything and more, or fall apart. I’m personally opting for the former option.
