I think it was probably the camera-work. The acting wasn't bad, but really not anything special, though it probably took quite a bit for him to affect the non-emotional side, unless the actor has something like Asperger's. The dialogue didn't really catch me, either. However, there was a certain beauty to how the scenes came together, how the light showed, the uses of colour, etc.
I haven't seen Run, Lola, Run yet. After what you say about it and what my sister said, I think I need to.
Not at all! Please do-I'm new to lj and love meeting more people, especially fellow movie nerds.:)
And I can definitely understand better why you liked the movie now-I agree that the camera-work was really brilliant. In fact, come to think of it, that was the one thing I really liked about the movie too. The use of color was amazing and I love the shots of everyday life in the streets, too, the squalor and energy of it..
I just had less tolerance for the acting/dialog/plot silliness...and the overuse of close-up shots on the guy's nose. No more nostrils, please.;)
But yes, if you liked the camera-work in "Perfume", you owe it to yourself to run (RUN! I tell you, RUN! not walk;)) to rent "Run Lola Run". The camera-work is just...gah. No words.
It's so fun to watch the director take such risks and try so many new things with the camera-work. And the plot and dialog and character development..it's a great movie that just overflows with all this creative energy.
