For me two things needed to happen in the second season premiere. The Veronica character had to die, and the escapees had to stay out of prison

I too hated how fast Bellick was processed and the fact that he had dozens of witnesses at the hospital that could testify that he couldnt be the killer. If they wanted to toss Bellick in jail, they should never have given him an alibi or actually had him be the killer.
Yeah, then they'd still have the stupid problem of Bellick being put into gen pop, but that would be more in line with some of the silly contrivances the show has already established (like having a death row inmate who doesn't get to be alone most of the time somehow get to be on the maintenance crew).
All they had to do is not provide him with such a rock solid alibi, and they could do the story (although preferably, not all in one episode). Stupid show.
