I doubt there'll ever be a hockey movie like this. The sport doesn't lend itself well to film, because its so fast. That, and only Canadians care about it, and we don't make the best movies. But, mostly its the speed. There's no time to ruminate about things like life and magic while watching hockey.

Ray comes up with the idea about Shoeless Joe in a dream, which is shown.

And I don't think this movie requires any more suspension of disbelief than other parables like Pleasantville. It earns the leaps it takes within the context of the story.
