I hated this movie. I do tend to be more critical of remakes, but this one didn't even come close to even being worthy of standing next to the shadow of the original. I too wanted to reach in and slap Dakota's character too many times to count. There were to many scenes that had shotty set designs and I felt as if I was watching a theater production on film rather than a Spielberg movie. I expected to at least be mildly entertained and was not. And Tom Cruise's two dimensional. acting skills did add the sourness.

Halfway through that movie I completely lost what was going on, it just became aliens zapping people and screaming and running and blowing shit up; somewhere I lost the plot.
