ask NYC LJ again

I realize I've been limiting the vast resource that you are, dear LJ friends, by looking for Asian restaurants only.

I'd like to know: What is your favorite restaurant, of any kind, to take someone really special?
Why do you like it?

The tasting menu at Annisa was a highlight of eating out in NYC.

Today though, we are doing the tating menu at Boulet.. so I'll let you know if it tops Annisa :)

Not quite sure how special a someone you mean, but aligned with your earlier ambience/cost criteria, one spot I like to take out-of-towners:

Gradisca - Italian - cozy and candlelit; if the polenta with gorgonzola is on the menu, it's a must!

Sadly, my usual go-to list has been shortened by the demise of Florent and (good god, I just realized it's closed!) Marion's.

More casually, a burger with atmosphere at either Old Town Tavern or Fanelli's.

Hope you get some other good suggestions, I need to update my mental list.

44SW is a lovely little Italian place on the corner of 44th and 9th.

And while Artisanal can be a little cramped, for cheese lovers, it can't be beat. Plus, what's more romantic than sharing fondue? :)
