Help me, friends and random strangers. You're my only hope.

I've known roughly forever that my Myers-Briggs type is INTJ. But I just recently realized how dang much that explains about how I think and act. Especially what I'm like in relationships, both romantic and platonic. (I like that bit where INTJs have no qualms about cutting off ( Read more... )

I don't really have any advice, but I had to comment anyway, because I never put the INTJ together with the "reserved" comments I always get on my personality. I don't come across as warm & fuzzy either. I've always blamed it on shyness, though. It takes me a long, long time to get comfortable around people, and for people to realize that yes, I have all that same affection inside, it just doesn't show up in quite the same way.

I think any "I" type may come off as reserved (or feel shy), just because introversion tends to mean you're less outgoing than extroverts. The kicker with emotional expression seems to be adding the rationality (the "NT" part, I think?) to the mix. So you're less inclined to put yourself out there anyway, and you're less focused on your feelings in the first place. Perfect relationship material! ;)

I still think, with your intelligence, you were meant to be with lawyers or academics. But your soul and heart seem to be on another track, and this strikes me as the source of the disconnect.
