Great job, I have no more words I could use to express myself properly. I'm overwhelmed by emotion.

I normally prefer happy endings, with my boys ending up together, but this fic had a mind of it's own, as you can tell.

His history has been sort of like that - one big joke. He comes to Sunnydale to get Dru better using Angel and then Angelus comes back and ruins everything. He tries to kill Buffy but then uses her as an ally to save the world and loses Dru. He tries to kill Buffy again and gets a chip implanted in his head. He loves Buffy and then she dies. She comes back but then uses him savagely. He goes through trials to get his wish of getting his chip out but gets his soul instead. When he finally gets his chip out and starts to redeem himself, he dies in the Hellmouth (closing it so Buffy can have her "normal" life). When he finally thinks its all over, wham, he gets slammed into another body.
Yes, ironic is Spike's middle name.

Sad and hurty story you've written here. Poor... well... everyone. I like to think of Spike getting to live as a human, but then he'd be so vulnerable. Not that he isn't vulnerable all the time, but usually more in the emotional sense.

*nods* Definitely. I've wondered if he'd really enjoy being human, you know? I mean, he seemed to want it on AtS, but I think that was more part wanting to screw Angel out of something for a change, and part desperately wanting to be told he's worthy, even though, deep down, I don't think he really believes he is. I'm guessing the reality of how vulnerable and *mortal* he'd suddenly be wouldn't be something he'd want to accept, and I think he'd take too many chances.
