Wow. She looks exactly like one of my cats did at that age.

Who still play=bites and grabs with claws. You're in for a riiiiiiide, but it does get better and they're very cute. >D

IF she is a calm enough kitty you can actually trim her nails with standard toenail clippers.

My vet showed me how to do it when I was discussing declawing alternatives. I just set my kitties on my lap, paws out, and trim the white pointy tips off (not anywhere near the quick, just the sharpest points).

I DO have to do this just about weekly but it has saved the 100+yr old wood bannisters and door frames in my house. I also have very calm cats who are used to it now. I know its time for a trim when my kids start getting battle scars on their shoulders from the snuggling.

Make sure you are washing those wounds and use neosporin, cat scratches can have LOTS of infection causing stuff in them

We're going to start trimming her nails in a couple days. We've only had her a week so she's still getting adjusted. We have two other cats, an older declawed one, and a younger "I still have my nails and like ripping the carpet" one.

The younger gets his nails trimmed pretty weekly. I put my boyfriend in charge of that since I am so bad at trying to see the quick.

And yes, I'm washing them and putting stuff on them. I'm not too worried about the small, close to the surface cuts, it's just the big nasty one on my hand that I'm scared of.

i have one kitty who "baby snuggles". He likes laying on me from waist to shoulder with his front paws and head on my shoulder.

well I was watching the live feed of the bald eagle nest in Decorah Iowa a week ago and dad landed with an all mighty Screech.

Cini tried to dig into my shoulder to climb over my head to get away and got one needle sharp claw stuck in the soft spot near my collarbone.
I had to grab him and squish his paw to retract the claw to get it out.

I have a dime sized bruise and a double puncture wound from it.

don't watch live eagles with sound on if you have a fully armed and/or skittish cat.

we have to trim one of our cats nails, but she is NOT CALM. after three years of doing it, i still have to hold her by the scruff while my mother clips her nails.

Since she's so young, you can definitely train her to accept nail trimming as a weekly ritual. I try to do it at least every other week on mine, especially since they're now indoor-only. I started mine off by casually clipping one or two claws when they were just waking up, and stopping as soon as they pulled away. That way, they don't view it as a negative experience, and you'll be able to do more next time. Don't forget the back claws too- those can get nasty if you don't clip them!

And I bet all those scratches are worth it when you see her adorable, smug little kitten face asleep in your lap, huh?

That's actually a good idea. She sleeps pretty heavily so it shouldn't be hard to catch her when she's half awake. My middle cat views it as a negative experience, but I think his previous owner never really.. cut his nails.

I'm not too worried about the back nails. I'll probably give them a trim when they start getting bad.

Thirding the claw-trimming suggestion. I have three cats and I trim all of their claws every/every other week or so.
