It could be keratosis pilaris. It's most common on the backs of the arms and thighs, but it can crop up pretty much anywhere (even on butts). It's harmless and looks like this usually.
There's not much a derm can do for you anyway, they'd probably just tell you to exfoliate the area and slap on some lotion.
I was going to suggest KP as well. I get it on the top part of my arms, and sometimes the top of my thighs. There's no cure, but exfoliating helps a lot, and getting some sun on mine helps it almost disappear.
Yeah, ditto. It sucks and looks weird but it doesn't hurt or anything. My sister and I also found that tattooing over it makes it go away, which is weird...
You should never use sunbeds. Just one session on a sunbed increases your chance of skin cancer by 60%, and one 20-minute session exposes your skin to the same amount of harmful UV rays as 3 hours in the midday Australian sun would.
Ya know I used to be in this camp too. But I've also read about how thats not true either, etc etc. I use tanning beds because I have really awful seasonal affect disorder (to the point of trying to kill myself in Feb. when I dont really have suicidal tendencies otherwise), and I cant afford the 'happy lamps'. However, tanning once a week from the last week of Jan. to the first week of April helps me more then anything I've ever tried.
