Yes, this. My heterolifemate (aka male BFF with whom I do not have a romantic relationship) has this horrible disease that makes his teeth just disintegrate. He usually hides it pretty well but sometimes people notice and ask. He tells them he got in bar fight, had them broken on something, and couldn't afford treatment. It usually works far better than the truth, which baffles me.
