Lunchtime is lonely by choice. Kas could probably find a colleague to eat with most days, but her work is a lot of talking to people, and talking them through very tangled problems. So it’s nice to escape to the solitude of her car with it’s heated seat and maybe some kind of healthy drive through window and some NPR or a podcast for a little bit ( Read more... )

Normal work week? What's that? I don't think I've had one in years!

What indeed. I have probably cursed myself permanently by saying too many times, “I feel bad for people with boring jobs.”

I really liked this portrayal. We are all looking for meaning. I also don't wear make at age 43. I don't mind when others do, of course but I too "never got the hang of it." This makes for interesting issues as my 18 and 15 year old daughters start dabbling in make up.

Thanks! It was fun how many entries here on “Black Rainbow” got into search for meaning territory. I suppose the blog format gravitates in that direction.

You do this type of "slice of life" so well. Poor Kas. We all need to be looking for the rainbows after the storm!

Ah, thank you. I’m always afraid that the slice of life kind of entries are boring, but sometimes writing what I know seems far from scintillating. And I think there’s something attractive about trying to relate the beauty of the everyday moments.

I liked this - it captured the grind perfectly, even down to the fact that Kas got a moment to reflect on what dream she's following, but didn't even really get a chance to follow that up. The idea that she could even have a dream to follow is immediately swallowed up by other concerns. It feels sadly familiar in some ways. Good work :)

Thank you kindly! I want to get better at writing the relatable grind. Hopefully I can do some of that this season here.
