To the City of Ft. Lauderdale cop who followed me for more than a mile before pulling me over, demanded my license without telling me why he'd pulled me over, and wrote me a ticket (including a $95 fine!) for my left rear brake light apparently not working - FUCK YOU. It's three days before Christmas, you couldn't have given me a warning or ( Read more... )

I'm not required to appear in court. My options appear to be get the brake light fixed, mail in proof and $95 OR don't get it fixed, mail in $115. I'm really, really fucking pissed off.

That sucks. He could have pulled you over as soon as he noticed the light not working and told you nicely that you need to get it fixed - the approach he used sounds downright intimidating. :(

I hope you and the family had a wonderful Christmas despite this! <3

I think intimidating is exactly what he was going for - fortunately for me, I don't find cops intimidating! I knew I hadn't been speeding or driving recklessly - I had Olivia in the car with me! - so I had no idea why he pulled me over. I guess he was just trying to be a badass. Too bad he only succeeded in being a jerk.

We did, thank you! I hope you had a nice, restful holiday weekend, too. :D

I wish! My options are clearly outlined in the nice little brochure the cop gave me with the citation, and whether I have proof that it's been fixed or not, there's still a fine - $95 with proof of repair or $115 without. I'd suck it up and pay the fine for speeding or something I'd actually done wrong, but how the hell am I supposed to know that a rear brake light isn't working? I think that's what has me annoyed.

Pretty much. But the brake light has been fixed, so I will mail in the receipt along with my $95 and go on my merry way cursing Ft. Lauderdale cops under my breath every time I see them.
