I had a really good Sunday. matrushkaka's dad was in town, and we went shooting at the Circle S Ranch up in Tomales. The range is about 15 minutes from Nick's Cove, one of the best seafood places in the extended bay area with arguably the best ( Read more... )

Hey, that is seriously good shooting, especially with iron sights.

Actually this was with a really good scope, not iron sights. I'd actually never shot at 300 before and I wasn't sure how much the bullets were dropping, so this actually represents a pretty good guess.

Ah, ok. I probably should have guessed it was scoped, but I thought maybe you had crazy skills like Simo Hayha (who had 400 yd kills w iron sights).

Ummmm, chowder...is it creamy or brothy?

It's the New England style white chowder, but not thickened the way the cheap chowders are. It's a very nice balance between creamy, brothy, and bacony.

Sounds like fun, we'd be down to join sometime if you were looking for company.

One thing I'm realizing if I make this a regular thing with guests is that ammo is expensive. A box of 20 175gr Federal Gold Match (the really good stuff) costs about $40 - and that's when you can find it. I think we went through 2-3 boxes this Sunday. Not cheap. People try to save money by reloading, but precision reloading is an OCD rabbit hole that kinda scares me.

Fortunately my rifle also shoots the cheap, easy to find stuff. You'd certainly be welcome to come next time but picking up your own ammo might be good.
