Election Socialism

Some of matrushkaka's friends from back home have been urging her not to vote for Barack Obama because they say he's a socialist. I should start with some background and context. It used to be that you voted for a Republican to keep your taxes low, but that's not true this year. The message has sunk in that Obama's tax plan cuts more taxes for more ( Read more... )

The Obama quote they've hung the socialist claim on is "Spread the wealth around." All economic systems are about spreading the wealth around. Joe the Plumber wants to redistribute wealth from people with clogged pipes to his (future) plumbing company. Capitalism and socialism have different goals and mechanisms for wealth spreading, but they're both systems of doing it.

It's too bad that there's no scary word for McCain's policy of transferring wealth from people who don't have it to people who do.

In the middle ages, such people tended to be called things like "rober baron", or they were form of monarch or an agent for same.

Clearly depriving the Free Trade of Free Markets as the means by which citizens can buy the best market oriented wars was the first step of the RED HORDES to destroying our white christian america yada-yada-yada...
