Drawing a cross in the dirt

So there's this thing about how McCain stole his story about a Vietnamese prison guard drawing in the dirt from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. And it seems that the charge is at least partly if not fully BS. It's not necessary for McCain to have stolen the story from Solzhenitsyn because Solzhenitsyn isn't the person who invented the concept of drawing Read more... )

McCain doesn't need your intelligently well-worded sympathy. He just needs more pills and a quart of baby blood for dialysis.

You're probably right, but it does bug me that this is exactly the kind of crap that worked perfectly against Kerry four years ago.

Another thought -- using D&D specifically says that Obama supporters are little nerds who probably aren't religious (after all, Dungeons and Dragons is "SATAN'S GAME"), wouldn't do the manly things that McCain has done, and obviously support Obama because he, like they, can't make the hard choices of a Man of Action.

This, of course, ignores the major role-playing crowds at a lot of military bases, but I suppose that's pre 9/11 thinking.

Another thing I would recommend, on a tangental note -- Shooting War. It's an interesting satirical comic about the first year or so of a McCain presidency from the point of view of an alternablogger that hits the big time.

As for the "Dungeons and Dragons crowd," my preferred theory is the one that occurred to a lot of political bloggers, that he's just trying to throw back the standard insults leveled at jingoistic warbloggers: that they're the "101st Fighting Keyboarders" waging Cheeto-stained vicarious war from the safety of their parents' basements, etc.

Either that or he's got a hate-on for Ta-Nehisi Coates.
