Reading this article and thinking how to answer his question helped me clarify what exactly the problem is with wiretapping criminals and terrorists without a court order:

Let's assume for the minute that your statement is true. (You haven't provided any sources, so who knows.)

Everyone is tempted to abuse their power. The system must be designed so that everyone is subject to judicial review, even RFK/JFK.

as I noted in the blog comments to the article:Given the reality that opposition to The Greatest Military Leader EVER! is by it's very nature the Act of Treason, according to so many NeoCons, and hence the basis upon which such an opposition has actively STABBBED our valiant Fighting Forces in the Back, how can there be any distinction between what had once been considered merely political dissent???

So what if the real issue here is "how much of america, american culture, and american law" are you willing to abandon to allow those who do not want to cope with the reality that the 09/11/2001 attack on the world trade center was not the first attack on the WTC, and as such, does not suffice as an excuse to create mystical new powers for the Great Leader!!!
So FIRST off you have to work out if there can be a Form Of Government that is not merely the direct allegience to the Great Leader? And if so, how do you create that myth, in a way that is not merely rerciting the failed pre-911 dogma that caused the iranian flying saucers to ( ... )
