mom: "they were evacuating the newspaper building because the Muslims called in a bomb threat."
kcin: "which Muslims?"
mom: "oh, you know...the uh, international Muslim community...they're upset because the newspaper published--"
kcin: "so the international Muslim community issued a bomb threat?"Every so ( Read more... )

What a list. Are all those real groups, or are they forgotten Muppet names?

Such sweeping generalizations are probably rooted in racism.

Podcasting's pervasiveness has revealed to me that people talk more casually than they type (in blogs at least).

One idiot's car-based podcast constantly refers to anyone of latin decent as "The Spanish". The recorded voice reveals the talker's slight disdain for the "Spanish" construction crews. It's almost quaint, and I'll tolerate his generalizations... But as soon as he starts using the term "colored", ...

I was going to make them all hyperlinks to their relevant wikipedia pages but I got tired.

To be fair those aren't all entirely distinct groups: some of them are are subsets, etc.

I can't believe that my fellow pagans think we have the market cornered on interdenominational conflict. At least none of us have shot at each other. Yet.

Uhhhh.... there's interdenominational conflict in Paganism?

I mean I'm not surprised, and please excuse me for my ignorance but where do the schisms lie? "Praying to the Oaks" vs "Praying to the Sycamores"?

The big one currently is "Rigorously Traditionalist Covens of Lineaged Descent" vs. "Eternally Optimistic Eclectics Who Found a Really Cool Book at Barnes & Noble", pretty much.

The tendency of certain elements in each group to foist anyone they don't like off onto the other only adds to the confusion.
