I've been working as a shift leader for Hollywood Video for 2 years. The company is going through some horrible changes right now, and it's such a pain in the ass to work there. I hate the place every day I enter the doors. You basically work on commissions, but you don't get the extra pay. You have to get guests to buy shit they don't care about, and you have to meet a quota or you'll get a talking-to. It used to be a blast to work there, but the company had to close down 70 stores across the country and is losing money because of their horrible debt.
And in my 2 years of working there, I've only gotten one 50-cent raise. I make 6 dollars an hour. And I'm a damn manager. I want a new job so badly.
Well, thanks for the upbeat comment. I definitely do not intend to stay there 2 years. I just need a job so I can help my family out financially for a few months.
Also, I don't know if it's different with California, but not once in the 7 or so years I've been going to Hollywood Video has anyone ever tried to sell me something. No lie or exaggeration. The only place that does that is Game Crazy, but never Hollywood Video.
I'm not a good sales person, so I'll probably fail. Movies are too expensive anyway.
What what! They're not doing their E4 obligations. They are supposed to ask everyone for concessions, Play Guard, an MVP account if they don't already have one, and the Entertainment Weekly special. Bah on them. They must be more laid back, so go for it.
The job is easy. I will say that. Something they will ask you (Well, we ask every interviewee) is, "What is your favorite movie" and why. If you can tell us any movie and make it sound like you're recommending it for a sale, you'll probably be hired. Or, they might ask you "Can you name a good movie from X genre." As long as you say something and make it sound like you know what you're talking about, you're good. We ask this, because that's what most of the customers will ask you.
And maybe tell them you're good at alphabetizing stuff. You'll do a lot of that.
Dead Like Me is great! But like most other great shows lately (Firefly, Arrested Development), I only learned about it after it had been canceled.
I think I've given up on good shows lasting more than a couple seasons, I was actually happy to learn that DLM had two full seasons, instead of being put on the chopping block halfway through a season or something.
I think it is confirmed they are doing some Dead Like Me episodes, or it could be a movie, straight to DVD. I don't clearly remember the post, but supposedly they have started filming and there are pictures on Ellen Muth's MySpace.
