The protean charm. Tom’s eyes reflected the candle flame as he scanned through the pages. The idea of absolute control over the mark enticed him. Someday he would have his own mark. The insignia of absolute power, revered for all of time, all his and only his. Embedded into the skin of those easily manipulated weaklings as a mark of servitude, to him and only him.
The creaking of doors announced the presence of the caretaker. Tom shut the book in haste, leaving the library. The soft moonlight, however, did nothing to quell the burning mad sparkle within his eyes.
