I did a fandub! MYSELF?!

So yeah, here is another fandub that I'm in -- only there's something different about it: I mixed all the sound effects, music, and voices myself!! Meaning, I personally synced all the sounds, obtained from sources other than the source movie, to the video, and adjusted volume, etc. =D I voiced Chihiro as well. And I did all of this last night ( Read more... )

spirited away, awesome, creation, yay, voice-acting

ALL RIGHT WELL. MY OPINION, I WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.

Your voice acting was pretty amazing. You got that plucky girl feel down quite nicely. And your "wtf I'm see-through!!" voice was adorable.

The mixing for the water was spectacular, not a splash out of place. (Except for the initial entry, which was more of a plop, and better suited for a large, round, solid object.) I am impressed.

The SFX when she was beating at her head, trying to wake up, and the flip of her hair came across as a little too conspicuous. Subtle sounds like that should be felt rather than heard.

BUT I AM A TOTAL NOOB AT MIXING SO IDEK. I LIKED IT. GOOD JOB. 8D

Heheh, actually you said the exact same things as another person who is an experienced mixer, so you've got good ears. =3 I really appreciate it! Things like this are kinda hard for me to pick out, as I think my ears aren't discerning enough yet.

...Actually, while we're on that...in the future, for one project I'm currently cobbling together, would you be willing to have a sneak peek at it and just tell me the kinds of things you did just now? The things that you mentioned are very easily fixable once I actually *know* about them, it's just lowering the volume on those SFX and upping the pitch on the splash (yes, that makes the splash smaller and shallower =P nifty, eh?) -- I'd love it if I could have a sort of "second ear" for that big project of mine before I release stuff, because once it's released, well...it's released and it's awkward to go back and fix things ^^;; NOT THAT I'M PRESSURING YOU OR ANYTHING. Just if you think looking at stuff before everybody else sounds exciting or not. 9_9

Um. I'd be super happy to, because it's basically allowing me to nitpick soundtracks and get thanks for it? (I love nitpicking sounds. Hearing! Yay! Thank you God/Earth/Mother/my DNA for allowing me to hear things. <3) But I mean...you don't want someone with a bit more experience? Either way, I'd be more than willing to listen to it and tell you what I think works/doesn't work, but I'd recommend in advance that you bring a shaker of salt. >_>

Yes it does sound exciting, very much so =DDD

Oops, response a week later. 8D;;

Seriously, just having a second ear will help a lot -- often someone can spot if "something's too loud" more than someone who's been working on it for hours. =P And since you caught pretty much everything that someone who was very experienced also pointed out to me, I think you have a discerning enough ear that I shan't worry about getting wayward advice. =3

If you're wondering what you might be looking at in the future, I'm on my way to creating a manga video for this webcomic here: No Rest for the Wicked; still waiting for a critiquer to get back with me on a visual test run I did, but I'm scripting and gathering SFX, so...=D And oh yes, I have the audition page all prettily formatted and ready to copy-paste onto the VAA forums. I hope people will admire the pretty; I worked really hard to make it visually appealing. ^o^ (As to whether I succeeded, that remains to be seen, but at least I made it spick and span organized and clean.)

That. Was. AWESOME! I <3 your Chihiro, and the mixing was really good. How do you do that?

Thankies! ♥♥♥ I'm surprised it turned out this well, being the first time attempting it! Basically the main work is finding the right SFX (I had the OST on hand and was very familiar with it so that was no problem), modding them for your scene if needed (the scrambling out of the water bit? was a hodgepodge of three different SFX =P ), and then syncing them and adjusting the volumes of each to the video. If you have a good program it's not exactly difficult, but you kinda hafta be anal-retentive to really get it right XD;;

Oh, and I'm still working on the RP icons ^^;; Been so busy recently and still have some things to clean up, so it'll probably take a little while longer. But do e-mail or PM me if ya got any questions or anything else! =)
