My heart goes out to all those hurt as a result of this nation's international war on drugs. When will the powers that be realize that this is a "war" with no winners? until prohibition is ended in the Americas I fear that this mafia-style violence will continue. :(

How much do you think would a potential US legalization of marijuana have on this tragic situation? I wonder if it'll affect it at all, as I'm sure the Mexican drug trade is not exclusive to weed. That is of course assuming that the US at some point in its future is progressive enough to legalize it.

Did you hear that Delaware recently become State #16?

Until the US decriminalizes/legalizes ALL drugs, I fear that this will continue. Cocaine is probably the single biggest funnel of money towards these nasty individuals, though Marijuana sales of Mexican weed would probably fund them as well. You'll probably recall that Mexico was on the verge of decriminalizing ALL drugs a few years back, but Bush and Co got involved and twisted their collective arms to ensure that prohibition continued, that will go down in history as one of many stupid moves made by the US gov't with regards to what should be regarded as a public health crisis and not a criminal one. With that said, I don't think that would have eliminated these gangs though since the US was still gonna keep all drugs outlawed even if Mexico did end prohibition.

There is another humanitarian crisis going on at that border, which is of course the many migrants who will do whatever they can for a chance at life in this country, but they get smuggled in by some of these same gangs who might rape or kill them. :(
