He had not done much of anything since the trial. Couldn't seem find the motivation required to do anything. It did not help that he didn't have contact with anyone. Work was still off limits, and with the publicity the case was getting... It also seemed like Romano was completely avoiding him, despite living in the same house. Not that he could ( Read more... )

Antonio would spend the next half hour staring at the ceiling until Romano finally made his appearance. It wasn't that he was purposefully avoiding the Spaniard- okay, so maybe it was- but he'd almost succeeded in convincing himself that it was the right thing to do.

After all, what was he supposed to say? He'd completely failed himself and Antonio, and now they were left to flounder in a month of the aftermath; of accepting that they'd been beaten by a crazy old hag and her child, a self-centered boy who would probably end up strutting across LU without having had to lift a finger in his whole entire life.
(Romano didn't bother drawing the comparison between the brat and the amount of times he himself had walked free due to his grandfather and a biased jury.)

Either way, he had found himself standing at the Study entrance, watching his best friend with--what? Pity? Guilt? Helplessness?

He heard the steps pause in the doorway, but when they didn't continue, he raised his head. Had it always been so hard to do that? It suddenly stuck him that he didn't know what day of the week it was. Or when he had last bothered to eat something.

"Hey."

Digging his hands deep into each pocket Romano kept his head lowered, watching Antonio from behind half-lidded eyes.
He stepped further into the room until he was right beside the chair.
"So that's it then. You're just planning to rot here."
Don't do this.

Neither could go on like this, they both knew that. But comforting words were never his forte, and he was sure Antonio knew that too.

"I'm not really good for anything else. I may as well get a head start."

He would be going to jail soon enough, he knew. They both knew. He would be out of Lovino's hair soon enough. But he supposed he deserved to hear whatever scathing words the other had for him. Antonio did not even steel himself for them. Just let his eyes slide closed.
