The highly anticipated drama, Unubore Deka, which Toma has a role in, is finally starting on 7 July! We asked him for behind-the-scenes filming stories and talked about his own "expressions".
A facial expression that you would never show others!
There are times when I went to watch a movie and started crying. But when the lights come on after the movie, it's really embarrassing to let others see this side of me so I'll immediately go home during those times. (laugh) And, I guess I won't show others the side of me where I read my script. I'll keep talking to myself. Its like, "what are you doing?!" that sort of feeling.
Something that made you laughed lately.
I've been laughing a lot whenever I talk to my Unubore Deka's co-actors in between filming. I guess the one who's is in the heart of it all and making everyone laugh is... Nagase-kun. What do we talk about? It's really just meaningless talk between males. But thanks to that, the filming site is a really happy place.
A difficult expression you had to make during filming.
Right now, we're in the middle of filming the first and second episodes. The drama's scriptwriter, Kudo Kankuro, is also the director. Somehow, Kudo-san has his own thinking of "interesting expression" and I've received really detailed instructions from him such as, "open your mouth a little more" or "show your teeth". It's not easy to show those expressions accurately but it's really worth doing it. Yesterday, after filming one of those "interesting expression" scenes, I heard laughter coming out from staff's room. (where they check the footage to see if it's okay). And I thought, "that's good" and felt relieved. (laugh) From here on, I intend to keep practising this "art of expression"(!) and show it to the audience. If you would kindly look forward to that too. (laugh)
A little promotion on Unubore Deka
The character that I am playing, Honjo Sadame, is a regular at the bar that Unubore (Nagase Tomoya) went to for a short rest. He is an unusually peculiar character as he is a homeless actor. I think it'll be very interesting to watch as the drama is filmed with really peculiar characters, so much so that even during filming, we ended up laughing. I think the fun atmosphere that the idiotic detective, Unubore and his circle of friends created and the feeling of team spirit will make you want to work hard till the end. I'm grateful if everyone would kindly watch and enjoy the drama.
What kind of "face' do you have in private?
Lately, I've been so busy with filming for the drama and the promotion campaign for Hanamizuki that I don't have time to take a break and relax. But, if there's a chance, I would like to go camping this summer. It'll be awesome if I could take my time to relax and go BBQ or fishing at the river. I'll probably have an easily understandable "this is fun!" expression on during that time. (laugh)
