Favorites of the Year 2014: Movies

Dec 29, 2014 12:34

I'm speeding along my Favorites list! Something's wrong with me... I'm not being lazy!

But here is the biggest list in my annual Favorites: MOVIES. This year was quite a good year for movies. Nowhere near the level of awesomeness that 2012 was, but it's still a great year because I had a tough time choosing which movies belong in the list and which movies don't.

Also, I'm doing a new thing this year in which I don't explain to you WHY I love a movie. I'm just going to show you which movies I love. I've been writing movie reviews for the whole year, so instead of being oh so serious with mini reviews in this list, all I need to say is that they are ALL highly recommended. If you haven't seen them, please do watch!

Favorite Movies of 2014

This list is definitely missing some films I wanted to see but I haven't seen yet (because they're not out here yet and I have no way of watching them), but just in case in the next two days I get to see one or two of them, they will all go to the Honorables list. Ah, Into The Woods (or The Imitation Game), one day you will be in my favorites list...

Honorable Mentions

Qu'est-ce q'on a fait au bon Dieu - somewhat politically incorrect French comedy about race and religion, but I admire the ballsiness of the script.

Philomena - one of the most heartfelt movies ever, and Steve Coogan's best!

Horns - Daniel Radcliffe with horns on his head. How could anyone resist?

The Guest - Dan Stevens made me a fan out of his performance and this Adam Wingard's home invasion movie. Totally unexpected, totally amazing.

The Boxtrolls - Laika does it again. After Coraline and ParaNorman, they still managed to wow me with this wonderfully stop-motioned film!
