Uh, he wasn't a pedophile. Somewhat unethical, maybe, but completely legal. Age of Consent in DC is 16. Kind of hard to be a pedophile when the person is of legal age to begin with. Besides the fact that pedophiles are attracted to children under 13.

While I know that is technically true...something about this just sticks with me. His instant messenger conversations, specifically, creep me out, if only because this is a boss talking to an employee. If there were a balance of power, if these were just two individuals, then I woudn't feel as strange about it...but it's their prior relationship that really makes it. If the page had approached him... I wouldn't feel as strange about it. Lots of things are technically true...but it still seems off to me.

In truth, though, it doesn't actually bother me that much...which was the inital reason for this post. I feel bad that I don't, well, feel that bad about this, and I feel worse that I see this as a political blessing.

Technically true, but still more fun to use loaded language against people, right?

It was someone with power talking to someone subordinant: the pages don't work for any specific congress member, so they're not direct employees, nor direct underlings like interns.

I don't feel bad about any of it at all, I honestly don't see it as such a big deal like everyone's making it out to be.

I'm actually more annoyed at people throwing around terms like "pedophile" when they're patently untrue and basically libel.

You know what? Fuck the pages. I've had enough of them running around, all clean-shaven. It's about time they had an old man's hand in their pants.
