When I'm on the computer in the evening, I'm usually surrounded by cats... one or two on each side, usually, snuggled up against me and occasionally resting a chin on the laptop

Ah yes, much fun (and claw marks!). Last night Pixel was curled up next to me on the sofa. Annie, who won't voluntarily go near him, came up onto the sofa from the opposite end and got all the way to my lap before noticing that the Dreaded Other Cat was right there. She hissed and swatted him as though he'd just done it to annoy her, he hissed, they both ran off, and I no longer had a warm lap. :(
