She must have done that so many times before - it would be almost second nature, a way of meditating on the next move... It must have been hard to have no hope of grandchildren to continue the tradition.

She has always struck me as an excellent and caring mother so it seemed reasonable that she would continue a process that she had done many times in the past. I feel that the elves in general rarely wasted things so the smaller pieces of waste from her sculptures must have had other uses as well. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this. *hugs*

You got both senses of marble in!
Even tired as she is, she is still working on a gift to children that are not her own...

Yes, a third usage may well come into play later down these prompts. I didn't decide to use two different uses as a conscious decision, it was my muse, therefore instinct instead of planning (can't quite take the credit - LOL). Thank you for your very kind words...

It's awesome when things like that fall into place without conscious effort. Marble marbles, yay. =D

I love this! It's nice to see Nerdanel at her craft, but also a little sad because, well, her family's left her.

Nerdanel's life is certainly bittersweet - the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I'm enjoying this exploration into her and am delighted to be sharing the journey with you and others.

This is lovey. You're describing the creative process so palpably one nearly can smell the stone dust, and feel the stone under one's own fingers. I actually never gave it a thought that marbles might also be made from cast-offs, and not only on purpose... it must be quite a job to sand them down, though! (Sez she who spent the afternoon sanding the small sides of several feet of planks for a small project.) Seeing Nerdanel relaxing with this task is very fitting.

I don't often work with stone, that's more my DH's realm. But it's similar to what I will do with metal and glass. I'm delighted that you feel her creativity. Idle hands, don't you know? - LOL.
