You see them all as being so supportive of her after she had moved away?
It is a nice thought--but of course it makes her loss worse now (if anything could make it worse).

I do see her family supporting her decision to move away - a divorce in a culture that seems to deal poorly with that concept. I think that the sons realize that there are problems with the marriage, but that the problems don't actually concern them, and that Nerdanel is their mother and always will be. It might be "sunshine and lollipops" but it's the way I see it - at least for this drabble set.

This drabble and the exchange of comments here makes me realize I've never considered the reaction of the sons of Fëanor to their mother leaving their father (for shame...I mean, I'm not an Elf person, but I do really like Nerdanel). This raises a lot of interesting questions, but personally I like the way you've approached it. Just because they left Aman with the one parent, doesn't need to mean they had disowned the other parent either.

I also like the image of an Elf tripping over a clumsily-placed tile. =D

Thanks, Huin. Although I have met snarky kids who take one side or the other exclusively in times of divorce, I have always thought of the sons of Feanor and Nerdanel as being basically good-hearted, shaped by circumstance rather than ire. I think they cared deeply for their mother and would doubt that they would separate their lives completely from hers. I fully admit that some will be more dependable than others, but that is only reasonable.

I'm really happy that you like the approach that my muse is singing to me here. :D

Yes, where the men lost their lives in a variety of really painful ways, she lost everything in a few words spoken during a time of emotional overload and crowd mentality. She is left with the desolation and the pieces to pick up while they will be so busy with the political mechanization and just fighting for their very lives that she will leave their conscious minds, only to reappear at the times of their deaths.

What a painful reminder, in more than one way.

I'm liking the way her story seems to be going. I think that her children building her studio was a really nice memory that, unfortunately, came crashing down on her when she recalled their walking away from Valinor.
