You know Arwen must had had a lot of sympathy for Éowyn when they met - for she well understood the pain, the fear, the longing, of the women 'left behind' - they had simply dealt with it in different ways.

The banner is often portrayed as a mere stage prop, a symbol, but something that is only that. You have been portraying it as an item of Power, something much closer to the reality, I feel.
I didn't consciously intend that, but the stories gradually seem to have brought it out. The symbolism of "seven stars, and seven stones, and one white tree" is so deep, and so freighted, that perhaps merely invoking them is, as you say, to bring a greater Power into play...

Am thankful that the PJ!AU in which they deal with it in precisely the same way got left on the cutting-room floor...
Thorougly recommend Thread of Fate, it has some really thought-provoking ideas in it.
