Thanks for commenting!

(And I always do like to see the word 'tricksy' bandied about. Occasionally I try to remember to use it in everyday conversation.)

Yes indeed. I'm really making him look like a dunce, aren't I? Poor fellow. Never wanted to discredit him. X)

Not a dunce - rather one of those very intelligent people whose desire to know more tends to be greater than their common sense or conscience.

'Tricksy' is the word of the day for Sauron here, it seems. Thanks for reading! =)

...trails along in wary, inquisitive wonder.

A fish on a line! *g*
And Yes... it is intriguing that these Maia should accept, at least some of, the dictates of old age when the took on mortal form - is it to take lust and/or physical attraction out of the equation? Or to give them an outwardly commanding appearance of perceived wisdom traditionally associated with venerable sages?

Thanks for commenting, Kortirion!

And I realize your question may have been rhetorical, but my motto when it comes to Istari matters should probably be: have ideas, will ramble! For me, I figured it was mainly the latter, to make them appear wise. And I also never thought any of them were particularly happy about it--thought some handled it better than others--and that it was the Valar's idea.
I think Men with a capital m would have been inclined to associate younger-appearing people with naivete or with military/martial endeavors. To me, a lot of the old man guise was an attempt to make sure the Istari were not mistrusted by Men.

And I'd ramble more, but luckily it's time for me to go catch the bus. X)
