What an interesting idea, and I really like the idea of his adding his hair to the mix.

I know that it was believed by many during the middle ages that something personal such as a hair or nail paring could add to the potency of a spell, so I can imagine he'd try adding his own hair to his gunpowder to help ensure it would destroy the defenses more effectively. Thanks!

Isn't that the truth? Of course, treating his allies as whipping boys isn't calculated to strengthen their loyalty, so his own behavior to Grima helped sow the seeds of destruction of both.
