Delightful! What a marvellous range of resources Bilbo would have found in Imladris for his research.

When I found that footnote I was so taken by the idea of Bilbo pestering every High-Elf from Elrond downwards, for the participant's-eye view of every event from the Helcaraxe on... [beats off bunny with sharp stick]

You are so right! That's a bunny worthy of feeding with carrots.

Oh gosh, I really liked this! I can't see Bilbo not wanting to satiate his curiosity when it comes to his research and to have so many living resources to hand ...

He must've had a great time at Rivendell!

I'm sure he had a wonderful time. I imagine his various living sources humoured him, even if it did occasionally get a little trying! I'm so pleased you liked it.

I read this to a friend of mine who liked the story and found it very neat; they liked your characterisation of Bilbo very much!

Bilbo's enthusiasm is delightful, and I'm sure he did make use of every resource!

I always see him as a true scholar at heart. I think it's such a pity he never met Faramir; can you imagine those two burying themselves in Elrond's library together?

Whether the balrog has wings! *snork* Love this look at Bilbo's research methods -- I'm impressed that he noticed Glorfindel's reluctance; most wouldn't, in the throes of research...

I couldn't resist referring to the Great Balrog Debate :-) Bilbo's a kindly soul; I felt he was sufficiently lost in the moment not to realise that it would be tactless to ask the question, but not so insensitive as not to notice when Glorfindel winced...

Oh, but this is just as I've imagined Bilbo in Rivendell as well! Yes, this is all so true to my understanding of his character and obsessions as well. Wonderful!

(DOWN, plotbunnies! Down, I say! Entertaining too many of you already!)

I'm so glad you like it :-) Yes, (though I've written Bilbo-working-in-Rivendell before) that footnote about "sources living and written" was new to me and I am also fending off plotbunnies...
