I teared up a little at this token from Éomer after reading all the other stories; I think I've taken Osred and his kin to my heart and held them close.

Thank you - I've grown very fond of my young farmer, too. I don't think this will be the last I write about him and his family.

I'm very glad of that; I'd like to know more of him and his family!

And congratulations! I hadn't thought it at all possible to get so many watery images in Rohan, land locked as it is!

It didn't immediately strike me, when I started - the snow brought him to mind and it was only later that it occurred to me how difficult the rest might be. But I have really enjoyed it.

Ah, that's lovely! How wonderful of Eomer to remember and provide for them. I love the way you've used all the prompts in such an arid setting.

I hope we'll be seeing more of Osred.

Thank you. I did think I had set myself quite a task - tackling lakes and the sea in mid-winter Rohan! But I have really enjoyed them.

I think I will certinly come back to Osred and his family again.

Yay for Eomer! I wonder if Eowyn put him up to that? I always have a mental image of her being the practical provider... And well done for managing to get so many watery images into a landlocked realm!

I think the Rohirrim must have suffered in that first winter - so many of their animals had been killed by orcs and uruk, so many of the men were missing when the fields that the orcs had tramped across needed to be sown in April, and still missing when the hay needed cutting in June and July. By harvest in August those who were going to return had probably done so - but so many would not return, or were returning in wains, still unable to farm. And the sowing had not been done in April ( ... )

This is such a lovely thing to imagine, the king looking after those left behind and working hard to rebuild. Great piece.

Thank you. I think Éomer would have been well aware of the number of his men that didn't come back, and that they were mainly family men, so it seemed right that he might try to ensure that they at least had a bit of extra food. I'm so glad that it seems right to you, too.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. What a moment! That's truly lovely -- and I've really enjoyed poor Osred, old before his time, and his family. Thank you!
