Oh, well done! I did wonder how you'd be able to get 'fountain' into this drabble series.

The boy's memories of the horses are particularly poignant.

I did puzzle a bit about the fountain - I wondered about something 'fountaining up' but somehow it didn't seem to work.

I'm hoping there will be enough prompts in the series for me to get the work done and let the lad have a bit of fun!

Oh, I love this implicit contrast: between the splendour of Mundberg and the solid, everyday reality of the stable. And what poignant stories attached to the horses!

Thank you - I'm glad that you liked the contrast between what is, for Osred, real; and what could be a fairy story it is so far from what he knows.

I want it to be that we learn of his family through his animals, if you see what I mean - we know there is Grandmother, from the ducks, and no Grandfather or Father from the horses... and we'll see what happens with the next prompt to see whose story might come next!

I was wondering how fountains could be fit into this series! And it's so nice to know his name at last.

I'm liking how we're getting to know his family through the animals - his grandmother and the ducks, his father and grandfather via their horses (or their lack).

It took me a while to work in the fountain, I must admit!

I am so glad that you noticed, and like, the way we are learning about his family through the animals.

It's an interesting way to do it.

Thank you. I have a real soft spot for the Rohirrim in that bleak post-war period.

A lovely bittersweet drabble. I am enjoying getting to know this lad from Rohan and his animals. This was a tough prompt!
