That detail spoke to me, setting the mood for what was coming and delivered so well in the following lines. I can easily see this happening - a moment in a day where Pippin has this thought and it's outside his usual cheerful self but it's there because there are moments where, I think, people questioned themselves like this with the Quest and in the Fellowship. You captured it well, here.
