Oooh, very dark. But entirely in keeping with the pragmatic Rohirric cast of mind. I like it :-)

Lovely, chilled me a bit! I like this switch from mowing hay to orcs, together with the recognition of approaching death. Thank you!

Thank you. There is always something dark, to me, about scythes.

Whether it is because they are so very easy to seriously damage yourself with, or the mental image of Death carrying a scythe, I don't know - but it was never going to be a soft and cuddly drabble, this one!

Eeep! Yours and kortirion's are a nicely matched set. (I hope I can come up with something more cheerful- I feel like I squandered all my haycutting inspiration earlier in the summer.)

Don't they? I thought that when I read hers earlier.

'Great minds' again...? Yes there's something that says scythe = Rohirrim somehow, as you say, perhaps connected to how dangerous they both are... in more ways than one.

I love the attitude, for their families, but ultimately their loyalty is to the Mark, even to giving his blood to the land - chilling, but apt for a warrior people.

We are certainly thinking along the same lines at the moment! I do like the Rohirrim, although (thinking also about my current long story), I seem to have a habit of killing poor Rohirric farmers off...

Thank you - I would have liked 'happy', but somehow scythes are sad...

Thank you. I must admit, though, that I'm hoping the next prompt brings me happier inspiration!
